Sodium Propionate is the sodium salt of propionic acid which chemical formula is Na(C2H5COO).
Sodium propionate is an organic salt used as a food ingredient to alter the look and texture of food. It is used as a food preservative and is represented by the food labeling E281. It prevents food components from clumping together, as in dry ready-to-make packed food items or grated cheese. It extends food shelf life by protecting it from oxygen-induced degradation. This white crystalline powder is deliquescent in moist air.
